Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) called the Sunshine State a “beacon of light” to those who wish to live freely.

In his State of the State address on Tuesday, the first-term Republican called out the crippled economies in other states nationwide that are dealing with school closures, shattered businesses and destroyed lives in the age of COVID-19.

In the state that now runs with the slogan “open for business,” DeSantis touted Florida’s working class, thanking state and local officials for not succumbing to the strict mandates as seen in the rest of the country. He said now is the time for other states follow his lead.

“Many Floridians cannot do their jobs over a computer, they need to show up,” DeSantis stated. “Over the past many months, Florida has led the way in protecting the jobs and livelihoods of its hard-working citizens, from construction workers to bartenders, from servers to hair stylists, everyone has a right to earn a living. Florida’s efforts have made a lasting impact on the lives of millions of people.”

Politicians across the aisle have also praised the governor’s work, which is probably why his approval ratings have soared. A Mason-Dixon survey shows a 53 percent job approval rating of registered Florida voters. With figures like that, his analysts say he is a shoo-in for reelection next year.
