Cornpeach Pleads Guilty of Stabbing on Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation

The man charged in the 2017 stabbing death of Ute Tribal member, 38-year-old Eli Ray Poowegup, entered a Guilty plea this week in federal court. A Wednesday press release from the Department of Justice US Attorney’s Office shared that 20-year-old Deland Cornpeach of the Shoshone-Bannock Indian Tribe, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of assault on a federal officer in federal court on February 1st.
